On my birthday, I decided to take action and sent a letter to President Biden with some recommendations to address the challenges on the southern border. As a concerned citizen, I strongly believe that we need to secure the border and find practical solutions to immigration to ensure the safety and prosperity of our country.

Dear President Biden:

As an American citizen and a proud Nigerian immigrant, I cannot help but feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities this great nation has provided me. On my birthday, May 11th, I see the expiration of Title 42, a United States public health law that takes measures to prevent the entry and spread of communicable diseases from foreign countries into the US, as a golden opportunity for us to tackle the pressing issue of immigration in a compassionate and organized manner. I feel blessed to have the chance to lend my voice, knowledge, and experiences towards finding real solutions to the crisis at the border and within our communities. We must approach this issue with compassion, empathy, and an open mind. As a nation, we must come together and work towards a solution that benefits everyone involved. We must recognize the humanity in every individual and remember that we are all part of the same global community. 

International:

1. Securing the Border: Collaborative Solutions for Immigration Policy

To secure the border and manage immigration, the US government should consider both physical barriers and advanced technologies. Constructing appropriate border structures such as walls or fences where necessary can help prevent illegal crossings and protect the country from potential threats. However, it is important to ensure that these structures do not harm border communities or disrupt the environment.

In addition to physical barriers, advanced technologies can play a significant role in securing the border. Using drones, surveillance cameras, and other sensor-based technologies can help monitor the border and detect potential threats in real-time. Advanced biometric systems can also be implemented to accurately identify individuals attempting to cross the border illegally.

Collaboration with international partners is also essential to address the root causes of migration, including poverty, violence, and corruption. The US government should work with countries that are the main source of migration, such as Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, and other Caribbean and West African nations, to curb violence and provide opportunities for their citizens to thrive.

To address drug trafficking and violence in Central and South America, the US government must collaborate with international partners, including the governments of El Salvador and other countries in the region. While some may have concerns about the methods used by El Salvador's president, Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez, stopping the flow of drugs and securing the border to prevent cartels from spreading illicit drugs into the US is crucial. Addressing violence in the region is also essential for citizen safety and reducing asylum-seekers to the US.

Overall, a comprehensive approach is necessary to secure the border and manage immigration. By using physical barriers and advanced technologies, collaborating with international partners, and addressing the root causes of migration, the US government can create a more effective and humane immigration policy.

2. Building Safe Spaces: Transitional Housing and Support for Migrants

When it comes to providing assistance to migrants who are seeking asylum, transitional housing should be a top priority. By providing these basic services, we can ensure that migrants are able to live healthy and productive lives as they await the resolution of their cases.

1. Creating a New Temporary State for Migrants: A Plan for Effective and Efficient Use of Funding for Immigrant Housing and Services

As the ongoing immigration crisis continues, it is essential to find new and innovative solutions to support migrants and refugees. One idea to consider is the creation of a temporary state in the southern part of the US to process migrants and slowly integrate them into the US. This state could be run by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and other organizations, with a focus on providing transitional housing, healthcare, legal services, and job training to immigrants and refugees. By creating a more comprehensive and compassionate system, we can support migrants and refugees and ensure their successful integration into American society.

In addition to this new temporary state, it is crucial to prioritize the effective and efficient use of funding for immigrant housing and support services. The government should prioritize providing access to healthcare, English language classes, job training, and legal services to immigrants while their immigration status is being processed. Social workers and attorneys should also be sent to the border to provide support and guidance to the immigrants. It is vital that monies sent to local governments and institutions are used for direct services and not held up in administrative processes and fees, as suggested by immigration attorney Fatmata Barrie of Montgomery County, Maryland. By efficiently utilizing funding, we can ensure that immigrants receive the support and resources they need to start a new life in the US.

To further support undocumented immigrants, we must improve and expedite the process for them to apply for citizenship. Additionally, implementing a payment system to the Federal or State Government as a form of restitution can provide a fair and just way for undocumented immigrants to make amends while pursuing a path to citizenship. It is also crucial to ensure that the processing of asylum and immigration cases is fair and just by providing access to legal representation and timely hearings. By working together and implementing these solutions, we can create a more just and compassionate system for immigrants and refugees in the United States.

2. The Power of Cultural Exchange: How Host Families Can Help Immigrants and Refugees in Need

American host families can play an important role in helping immigrants who are in need of temporary housing while they work to establish themselves in a new country. Hosting an immigrant family can provide them with a safe and supportive environment while they search for more permanent housing solutions.
